In 2001, six of his choirs were awarded with the “Ambassador of the Art” Award for their outstanding achievement in international choral competitions. In November 2002, two of his choir received the Gold Diploma from the Petr Eben Advent International Choir Competition in Prague with Victoria Junior College bagging the grand prize of the competition, the Prize of Petr Eben and Mr Nelson Kwei was also awarded with the Best Conductor Prize of the Competition.

In 2003, Mr Kwei organized the 21st Century International Choral Festival in Genting Highland, Malaysia. This is the first international choral competition that was held in South-East Asia and it attracted more than 2000 Singers took part.

In 2004, Mr Kwei led Victoria Chorale and Victoria Junior College (VJC) Choir to five Gold Medals at the 3rd Choir Olympic in Bremen, Germany. VJC Choir was the first choir in Singapore to have won the Olympic Champion Title – the most prestigious award for choirs in the World. Later that year, Catholic High School Choir won a Gold Diploma as well as the overall champion at the Petr Eben Advent International Choir Competition in Prague under the baton of Mr Kwei where he won his fourth personal inernational best conductor prize.

In 2005, the 2nd A Voyage of Songs, International Choral Festival was held in Kuala Lumpur, Malaysia. The festival attracted 1500 singers around the world with Estonia TV Children’s Choir travelling the furthest.

In 2006, VJC choir won the esteemed Audience Prize and GRAND PRIX AWARD in the 9th Riva Del Garda International Choral Competition, Italy. It is the first time an Asian Choir has won the grand prize and one of a few choirs in the world to win both the Audience Prize and Grand Prix Award together. Later in the year, The Vocal Consort became the first Asian choir to have receive 100% Full Marks in both the Superior Mixed Choir Category and Folklore in the “Festival of Song” International Choral Competition, Olomouc, Czech Republic. Continuing his success in Europe, both Victoria Chorale and Anderson Junior College Choir went on to receive World Choir Games Champion in the “World Choir Games 2006” held in Xiamen, China.
